EGGSHELL, SATIN OR MATTE: WHICH FINISH?
Eggshell is a good starting point for busy bedroom walls. It has a gentle sheen and is a common choice for high-traffic spaces. Satin or pearl offers more sheen and is worth discussing when frequent cleaning is a priority.
Matte isn’t automatically a poor choice: premium washable paints can provide durability even at lower sheens. Higher-sheen finishes can also make wall imperfections more noticeable. We’ll help you choose based on the exact product, wall condition and look you want.
A note on odour: low odour does not by itself mean a paint is safer for children. Follow the label’s ventilation and drying instructions, keep children away during painting, and ask about product-specific certifications if your family has sensitivities.
HOW TO KEEP PAINTED WALLS LOOKING FRESH
- Let the finish cure. Touch-dry isn’t the same as ready to wash. Follow the current product label and technical data sheet before cleaning.
- Start gently. Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water, following the manufacturer’s guidance.
- Test a small hidden area first. Avoid harsh scrubbing or abrasive cleaners that could alter the finish.
- Keep leftover paint. Some stubborn marks may need a small touch-up rather than stronger cleaning.
